The Life of Junaid Jamshed

Junaid Jamshed who was a pioneer for Pakistan pop renounced his music to pursue the path of a Muslim evangelist. He was also the founder of a hugely fruitful and favorite clothing boutique become one of the 47 people that died in an accidental plane crash. He died with Naya his 2nd wife, leaving behind his four children and Ayesha his first wife.

Born on the 3 September 1964 in Karachi, Junaid quickly became famous in the late part of the 80s as the lead singer for “Vital Signs” which was a boy band. The fusion of the Western guitar-driven pop along with traditional Tabla beats was the inspiration for a brand new Genre named Sufi Rock that is now hugely popular today throughout South Asia.

However, many of his fans turned into critics when he decided in the early part of the 2000’s to leave his thriving pop career to join the Tableeghi Jamaat which was one of the Sunni religious groups that travel throughout the world to preach about Islam.

In the year 2014, Junaid became entangled in great controversy in association with appearing to make critical statements about a wife to the Prophet Muhammad in a sermon that resulted in a case of blasphemy against him. He went on to issue a very tearful apology whereby the case was dropped.

Over and above his sermons and preachings he established a Pakistani clothes boutique in the year 2002 which is a profitable business that still boasts an incredibly strong presence in Pakistan. In his very last tweet, he posted a picture of himself along with the fellow preachers in the area of northern Chitral. It was from here that the Pakistan International Airlines flight 661 made its ill-fated last and final journey.
